Spelling Tip: Difference Between Loose and Lose

by Joanne on April 6, 2009

in English

Here’s an easy way to remember the difference between loose and lose:

Loose, as in not tight — loose as a noose (or goose, if you prefer)
Lose, as in no longer have — with lose you lose an “o”

I’d sure like to know why we pronounce lose looze, instead of lose as in dose.
