I gave up caffeine on Saturday, February 14. I suffered the usual headache that day, which was surprisingly milder than usual.
The muscle cramping began on day three as it always does. I woke up to pain in what I’m thinking are my psoas muscles. Those are the muscles connecting the thigh bones to the lower spine and are responsible for lifting the leg. My low and mid back were very sore and tight all day Monday.
By the fourth day the aching had moved into my back, the back of my arms and into my legs. It’s kind of like a charlie horse in that it feels like the muscle is spasming. The worst pain occurs in my gut when I bend over or squat. Cleaning the litter boxes become a torture. If this is what fibromyalgia is like, I sure feel sorry for those folks.
My sleep has been erratic as it is difficult falling asleep in such pain, and I wake during the night and toss for a couple hours. My whole sleep pattern will change once I’m off the coffee.
My psoas muscles still ache and my back is still sore. The pain should be completely gone by Friday.
I have noticed a change already in the hydration of my skin. It’s much smoother now. Anybody who says that coffee isn’t dehydrating wants to sell you coffee.
Well, today I turn 49. I’m going out to dinner with a friend to have a big sirloin steak and potato. Tomorrow I start Doug Graham’s 80/10/10 raw food diet. I’m even going to give up tea. It’ll be the first time in my life I go without a hot drink in the morning. Yikes!
