I just came across this on another health blog, which ties in well with my last post:
Fifteen of the world’s leading researchers in diet and cancer recently reviewed more than 4,500 studies. Vegetables and fruit came out on top as the food most likely to help reduce the risk of cancer.
Does consuming fruits and vegetables reduce your risk of cancer? Or does not consuming fruits and vegetables increase your risk of cancer?
That’s what I’m talkin’ about!
Why doesn’t “science” present it that way? Because you can’t sell the solution in a bottle. New! Introducing BEEF-B-GONE, the revolutionary nutritional supplement that actually reduces ingested beef proteins and their toxic metabolic byproducts! Buy two bottles and get FREE SHIPPING!
Here’s my question. If you’re not eating fruits and vegetables, then what are you eating? That would be meat, dairy, grains, and legumes. Maybe some nuts and seeds. Maybe, just maybe, a diet high in feedlot meat, dairy, grains, and legumes (and the chemical accents to make them palatable) increases your risk of cancer. What would that diet look like?
Breakfast
Cereal or oatmeal with milk and sugar
Coffee
Snack
Bagel and cream cheese
Lunch
Ham sandwich
Potato chips
Milk
Snack
Doritos
Dinner
Fish
Rice
String beans
Dessert
Ice cream
And most people would think that’s a fairly healthy diet! Yeah, compared to poptarts, pizza, McDonalds and candy bars it is. Hello? One in three have cancer. Hello? Most people over fifty have a chronic, degenerative disease. Hello? How’s it working so far?
Some of these are appropriate and healthy human foods and some are poor substitutes. If I go in my backyard I have blueberries to eat, some rasberries, and lettuce. There are plenty of dandelions. The apples, plums and blackberries are ripening. If I familiarized myself with edible plants, I could possibly feed off my few acres. But to find meat I’d have to fashion a killing tool and wait around for a rabbit to pop up. Maybe a deer will come by. I’m not accustomed to eating my meat raw like EVERY OTHER animal, so thank god for electricity! I guarantee there are no grains, legumes or dairy on my land.
We eat grains and legumes because they are starches that can be stored a long time without spoiling. We eat meat because we learned how to make fences and animals self-replicate and can provide fuel for our bodies in the winter. We don’t eat these because they’re good for us but because they help our species survive harsh conditions.

There is no doubt that the foundation of a healthy diet and weight control is the significant consumption of vegetables and fruit. Unfortunately, many adults do not like these fine foods – so we must make sure kids don’t develop these attitudes. That’s why I wrote “The ABC’s of Fruits & Vegetables and Beyond.” I hope parents and teachers interested in getting kids to develop friendly feelings towards fruits and vegetables should take a look at it. Out only a few months and already being bought in quantity for class use. I wrote it for kids of different ages as it is two books in one – children first learn their alphabet through produce poems and then go on to more mature activities. It is coauthored by best-selling food writer David Goldbeck (me) and Jim Henson writer Steve Charney. HealthyHighways.com
