We’ve been brought up on the paradigm of symptom suppression. Have a fever? Take an aspirin. Have a runny nose? Take a decongestant. Asthma? Inhale this. Have arthritic pain? High blood pressure? Depression? Take a pill and carry on your merry (or not so merry) way. Fat? It’s okay. Don’t change a thing. Just take this pill. And so we hobble through life a pill at a time, our energy diminishing, our agility and happiness ebbing away bit by bit.
But there’s hope! A recent scientific study announced that a compound in blueberries will cure you of everything. But you don’t have to bother with eating blueberries. Busy Blue Lab has synthesized this compound and combined it with extracts from an abundant wild root from China to enhance its absorption. You can have all its goodness for $24.95 a bottle and still eat pizza. Buy two bottles and get a third one free (plus free shipping and the free report “How Supplements Save Lives” valued at $19.95!)
Scientific inquiry is predominently a commercial undertaking financed by corporations with products to sell. The pharmaceutical industry and nutritional supplement industry are dominant funding sources, endlessly competing for your dollar. (Note the many times the FDA has tried to bring herbal and nutritional supplementation under the pharmaceutical umbrella.)
Since many of us are sick, we’re a huge pool of money that can be tapped into by offering something that allows us to continue violating laws of nature by promising us quick fixes or workarounds. Who wouldn’t be agreeable to that offer? And since we never address the cause of our complaints, we’re a continual stream of money that doesn’t run dry until we die. Not to worry. The medical industry has various surgical procedures to keep our bodies functioning beyond their capacity. A little graft here, a ream there, pull out this part, add this part. Ca-ching! “Ninety thousand dollars please. And here’s your new prescription.”
The Sensodyne study I wrote about three days ago is a case in point. The study was not conducted to promote diet change to prevent erosion of teeth. Nobody wants you to stop drinking coke and coffee and eating acid foods. (You might get healthy. Can’t have that.) Though they do make a point of telling you fruit hurts your teeth. The study was conducted to show that a new segment of society–children–needed Sensodyne’s toothpaste for their sensitive teeth.
Scientific studies use isolated ingredients on lab rats and mice to manipulate body chemistry to achieve a desired effect. Suppose your body is producing a hormone in excess. It’s doing so for a reason, to correct an imbalance. Your body is very intelligent. But that excessive hormone is causing a symptom. “Helllllooooooo. This is your body talking. Something’s not right here. Please stop doing what you’re doing because I’m getting all whacked out.” So the scientists find a way to circumvent your body’s efforts and suppress the production of this hormone by blocking enzymes, for example. Now look at the list of side effects for the drug. Not only have you ignored cause, but you are interfering with your body’s innate intelligence and you’ve added a toxic compound to your biochemical mix. Not good.
How many drugs can you think of that passed scientific study and were approved by the FDA, only to later be recalled because they were killing people or causing horrific side effects? Just Google “drug recall” and you’ll get a good idea. Prime example: phenylpropanolamine.
Phenylpropanolamine is an ingredient used in prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) drug products as a nasal decongestant to relieve stuffy nose or sinus congestion and in OTC weight control drug products to control appetite.

On May 11, 2000, FDA received results of a study conducted by scientists at Yale University School of Medicine that showed an increased risk of hemorrhagic stroke (bleeding of the brain) in people who were taking phenylpropanolamine. FDA
First a study was conducted to prove the efficacy and safety of this drug, which led to FDA approval. Then a study was published saying, Whoops! Some of you are bleeding in your brain and dying. Better stop taking it. The FDA pulled it off the market. And so it goes, year after year, drug after drug. And the pharmas rake in the dough.
I recently met a woman who told me for years she suffered serious nasal congestion and allergies. When her body was producing mucus to flush toxins out, she was taking a drug to stop it. The toxins and mucus built up to such a point that she had to take pills and inhalants daily to provide relief. Another woman learning of her condition recommended she try a nasal rinse. She did, and she said for days material came out of her nose that looked like pieces of her lung. She has been drug free with clear nasal passages for several years now.
Nobody need tell me that a compound in blueberries is healthy for me, or that a compound in apples of blackberries or brocolli can help reverse disease. I already know that these foods have sustained my species since we first put food in mouth. I can go into my backyard right now and eat blueberries. There’s nothing more natural and healthful to me than eating off my land.
The closer your nutrition is to the earth that produced it, the greater is its value to your body. The more handling and processing it undergoes, the more value it loses and the greater the addition of foreign substances, such as additives and preservatives. Live close to nature.
